From British sewing specialists Merchant & Mills, Aspen Stripe is a beautifully textured seersucker stripe woven from GOTS-certified organic cotton in a rich forest green. Exclusive to Merchant & Mills, this distinctive fabric has a softly crinkled surface that adds depth and character while remaining breathable, lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Woven on traditional Indian handlooms, Aspen Stripe has a relaxed drape and natural texture that make it an excellent choice for contemporary handmade wardrobes. The subtle stripe and tactile finish bring understated interest to simple garment shapes, making this a fabric you'll reach for season after season.

This fabric forms part of our curated collection of dressmaking fabrics available to buy online in the UK at The Draper's Daughter.

Perfect for:

  • Relaxed shirts and blouses
  • Everyday dresses and tunics
  • Lightweight trousers and co-ords
  • Contemporary garments with natural texture

This fabric works beautifully for patterns such as the Merchant & Mills Hattie and Ellis Dress or the Wardrobe by Me Claude Skirt, where the softly textured seersucker and relaxed drape can really shine.

Dressmaking fabric details:

  • Composition: 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton
  • Width: 117cm
  • Weight: 162gsm
  • Origin: Made in India
  • Construction: Handloom woven seersucker stripe

Woven on traditional Indian handlooms, this fabric has a beautifully tactile, softly puckered texture that requires very little pressing. Slight variations in the weave are a hallmark of handloom craftsmanship, giving every length of fabric its own unique character.

Sewing notes:

  • Softly textured seersucker with natural drape
  • Ideal for shirts, dresses, lightweight trousers and relaxed separates
  • The crinkled texture minimises the need for pressing
  • Handloom-woven fabric may feature subtle irregularities, adding to its unique character
  • Pre-wash before sewing to allow for any shrinkage

Care instructions: Machine wash at 30–40°C before sewing to allow for any shrinkage. For the first couple of washes, place the fabric in the washing machine drum with a handful of table salt to help fix the dye and minimise colour run. Do not tumble dry.

Buying guide: Sold by the half metre. For example, order a quantity of 2 for 1 metre.
