The Assembly Line • Almost Long Trousers Sewing Pattern Review
I’ve made the Almost Long Trousers sewing pattern by The Assembly Line a few times now, and it’s one I keep coming back to... not just for how they wear, but for how enjoyable they are to sew.

Suitable for beginners, this is an ideal first trouser project. The pull-on style with an elasticated waist means there are no zips or buttons to navigate, and the instructions are clear, well thought through and easy to follow.

The fit is relaxed, sitting slightly lower on the waist with a dropped crotch that gives a modern, easy silhouette. The leg tapers gently towards the ankle, with elasticated cuffs that help shape the overall look. In-seam pockets add a practical finishing touch.

As with many designs from The Assembly Line, it’s the subtle details that really stand out. One of my favourites is the flat section at the front waistband, where the elastic is stitched in place before being stretched. It’s a small detail, but one that creates a much more flattering finish.

They’re incredibly easy to wear - the kind of trousers that quickly become part of your everyday wardrobe — and a style you’ll likely return to more than once.

I made this latest pair in Kora Corduroy by Mind the Maker, inspired by a similar ready-to-wear style by All Saints. For this version, I lengthened them slightly for winter, although I’ve also seen them made without the cuff for a longer, more fluid silhouette.
For summer, I’m already planning another pair in Laundered Linen by Merchant & Mills, a lighter take on a pattern that works beautifully year-round.
Sew the Look:
Inspired by a ready-to-wear style from All Saints, this version of the Almost Long Trousers was sewn in a soft corduroy that adds structure while keeping the relaxed silhouette of the pattern. If you’d like to recreate this look, you can explore the pattern and fabrics used in this project below.
