The Wrap Dress Sewing Pattern by The Assembly Line is a beautifully modern interpretation of the classic wrap dress, combining clean Scandinavian design with versatile styling options. Featuring an elegant asymmetrical skirt and thoughtful construction details, this timeless pattern creates a refined silhouette that's equally suited to everyday wear and special occasions.

The design features a shirt collar, centre-front button fastening, bracelet-length sleeves and an asymmetrical A-line skirt that drapes beautifully when worn. A single button fastens one side of the wrap, while narrow internal ties create a secure and comfortable fit. Practical side seam pockets complete the design, balancing elegance with everyday functionality.

The pattern also includes several customisation options, allowing you to create a dress that reflects your own style. Replace the front button with tie bands, omit the collar for a cleaner neckline, or leave out the back bodice darts for a looser, more relaxed fit.

Suggested fabrics: This pattern works best in light to medium weight woven fabrics such as:

  • Linen and linen blends
  • Cotton poplin
  • Viscose
  • Tencel
  • Lightweight chambray

Fabrics with gentle drape will enhance the elegant movement of the wrap skirt while maintaining the clean lines of the design.

You will also need:

  • Matching thread
  • Fusible interfacing
  • For the button fastening version: 2 x 10mm buttons / 2 x 0.4m lengths of 5–10mm tie tape (or make your own from bias-cut fabric)

Sewing tips:

  • Experiment with contrasting fabrics for the two front panels to create a striking contemporary look
  • Use a contrasting button as a subtle design feature
  • Try the collarless version for a more minimalist interpretation of the pattern
    Omitting the back bodice darts creates a softer, more relaxed silhouette
