PDF sewing pattern • Custom sizing • Skill level: Confident beginner

The Glow Dress Sewing Pattern by Cris Wood Sews is a softly structured, zero waste design that combines a flattering silhouette with relaxed, everyday wearability. Featuring a V-neck bodice, gently elasticated shoulders and an elasticated waist, it creates a shape that feels both comfortable and easy to wear while still offering subtle definition

The skirt falls into a tiered design, with a smooth upper section and a softly gathered lower tier that adds movement and flow. The result is a versatile mid-length dress that works beautifully across seasons and occasions, depending on fabric choice.

With custom sizing based on your own measurements and a construction approach using simple seams, this pattern offers an accessible, design-led introduction to zero waste sewing.

 Perfect for:

  • Sewing a relaxed dress with a softly defined, wearable silhouette
  • Exploring zero waste sewing techniques with a versatile result
  • Creating everyday garments with gentle shaping and movement
  • Working with fluid woven fabrics such as linen, cotton or viscose
  • Anyone looking for a zero waste sewing pattern  with custom sizing

 Skill level • Confident beginner.

Pattern details:

  • PDF sewing pattern using zero waste cutting (no traditional pattern pieces)
  • Custom sizing based on your own body measurements
  • Mid-length dress with tiered skirt
  • Slash neckline for a clean, modern finish

Suggested fabrics:  This pattern works best in lightweight to mid-weight woven fabrics with a fluid drape such as:

  • Linen and linen blends
  • Lightweight cottons and cotton gauze
  • Viscose and rayon blends
  • Silk

Softer fabrics will enhance the movement of the tiered skirt, while slightly more structured fabrics will create a more defined silhouette.

Fabric requirements • Please see last image for the formula to work out fabric requirements.

You will also need:

  • Matching thread
  • Elastic (for shoulders and waist)

 Sewing tips:

  • Choose fabrics with a soft drape to enhance the movement of the skirt
  • Take care when inserting elastic to achieve an even, comfortable fit
  • Press gathers thoroughly for a clean, considered finish

 What is Zero Waste Sewing?

Zero waste pattern cutting is a method of designing garments so the full piece of fabric is used, eliminating or significantly reducing offcuts.

Instead of cutting around traditional pattern pieces, shapes are drawn directly onto the fabric... creating an efficient and sustainable layout.

A more mindful way of sewing, with less waste and more intention behind every garment.

Sewing inspiration: Try the Glow Dress in a soft linen for everyday wear, or use a fluid viscose for a more elevated look. The elasticated waist and tiered skirt make it a comfortable yet polished piece you’ll reach for again and again.

Why we recommend this pattern: The Glow Dress is a lovely balance of comfort and shape. With its soft structure, flattering neckline and versatile design, it’s an easy addition to a modern handmade wardrobe while exploring a more mindful approach to sewing.
