Introducing The Assembly Line Sewing Patterns

Posted on August 02, 2018

I'm absolutely thrilled to have recently added the full collection of sewing patterns by the relatively new Swedish indie brand The Assembly Line.

The Assembly Line Sewing PatternsThere was something about the aesthetic that stood out straight away — clean, modern silhouettes with just enough design detail to make each piece feel considered and distinctive. It felt different from other indie sewing pattern brands at the time, and that sense of quiet confidence has stayed with the collection ever since.

Since then, I’ve sewn several of their patterns, and they’ve become a real staple in my handmade wardrobe — pieces that are not only enjoyable to make, but genuinely easy to wear.

The Assembly Line Sewing Patterns

A modern Scandinavian Approach to Sewing

Launched in November 2017, The Assembly Line is rooted in a contemporary Scandinavian design philosophy... one that values simplicity, functionality and longevity.

The ethos behind the brand is to create garments that feel modern and relevant, but also timeless enough to be worn again and again. Clean lines are a signature, often paired with one or two thoughtful details that elevate each design without overcomplicating it.

It’s a beautifully pared-back approach, and one that translates effortlessly into wearable, everyday clothing.

The Assembly Line Sewing PatternsDesigned for Real Wardrobes

Founded by designer Anki Josefsson, in collaboration with pattern maker Lotte Bohlin Lindström, the aim was to offer an alternative to mass-produced fashion... giving home sewists the tools to create garments with a high-end feel.

What I’ve found through sewing their patterns is that they strike a really thoughtful balance:

  • Approachable to sew, even for less experienced makers
  • Well drafted, with clear, easy-to-follow instructions
  • Designed to be worn, not just admired

This is clothing you’ll actually reach for.

The Assembly Line Sewing PatternsPatterns I Keep Coming Back To

One of the things I’ve come to appreciate most about The Assembly Line is how wearable the designs are.

Over time, I’ve found myself returning to certain styles again and again, refining fabric choices, adjusting details, and building a wardrobe of pieces that work together.

From relaxed trousers, to easy-to-wear dresses and tops like the Cuff Top, the collection offers a versatile range of styles including:

  • Dresses
  • Tops and shirts
  • Skirts
  • Trousers
  • Outerwear

Each one designed with that same balance of simplicity and thoughtful detail.

There’s something very satisfying about sewing a pattern where everything just feels considered.

The instructions are clear and intuitive, the construction is logical, and the finished garments have a polished, modern feel without being overly complex to achieve.

It’s also a collection that really responds to fabric choice — a simple change in fabric can completely shift the look and feel of a garment, which makes these patterns a joy to revisit.

Start with These Patterns

If you’re new to The Assembly Line, these are the patterns I’d recommend starting with — all tried, tested, and easy to incorporate into a modern handmade wardrobe.

Cuff Top - a simple top with a distinctive elasticated cuff detail. Quick to sew and a great everyday piece that works equally well in plains and prints.

Almost Long Trousers - a relaxed, pull-on trouser pattern that’s ideal for beginners. Comfortable, easy to sew, and endlessly wearable — a great introduction to sewing trousers.

Drop Waist Dress  - a modern, easy-to-wear dress with a relaxed silhouette. A versatile pattern that works beautifully across seasons depending on your fabric choice.
